Václav Boštík / Altro Rome ‘77 / 59 + 1

The catalogue was published to accompany the eponymous exhibition held from 21 March to 27 May 2018 at Galerie Zdeněk Sklenář in Prague, which introduced a series of newly discovered drawings by Václav Boštík. These are works that the artist created during his stay in Rome in 1977 and first exhibited on the premises of the experimental Altro Theatre and Painting Group in the Italian capital. Thus, after a period of forty-one years, the Prague exhibition provided an opportunity to see where these previously unseen works fit within the context of contemporary international art trends at that time.

The catalogue contains a reproduction of all fifty-nine drawings from the series as well as of the painting Division, which Václav Boštík gave to the Italian artist Achille Perilli, at whose studio the artist worked during his stay and from where he organised the Roman exhibition. The publication includes an introduction written by Karel Srp and ends with documentary photographs from the exhibitions at which Galerie Zdeněk Sklenář has presented Boštík’s works.

The catalogue has been published in a limited edition of a hundred numbered copies.
