Zdeněk Sklenář´s China

In April 2009, the National Gallery of China in Beijing organised an eponymous exhibition of the Czech painter Zdeněk Sklenář, which presented his China-inspired works. In honour of the ninety-ninth anniversary of Sklenář’s birth, this classic representative of Czech visual art symbolically returned to China – to a country that he loved his entire life, one that inspired him and which he visited in 1955. Using the diary in which the artist recorded his thoughts and drawings, the film reveals the places and events associated with his stay, as well as the preparations for the Beijing show and the exhibition itself.

Immerse yourself in Zdeněk Sklenář’s China and experience the feeling of pride that the direct participants in the exhibition had the opportunity to enjoy. The film is narrated by the painter's nameseake and nephew, the gallerist Zdeněk Sklenář, who organised the exhibition.
