Josef Hejzlar: Qi Baishi and His Famous Students, Li Keran and Huang Yongyu

The book was published to accompany the eponymous exhibition held from 17 October to 3 November 2007 at Galerie Zdeněk Sklenář in Prague in honour of the fiftieth anniversary of the death of the Chinese painter Qi Baishi (1864–1957). The publication presents a poetic and artistic overview of Qi Baishi’s genius, which was first introduced to the Western world in the 1920s by Professor Vojtěch Chytil (1896–1936), who was a diplomat and painter as well as Qi Baishi's friend. We’d like to note that, since the 1950s, here, in the Czech Republic, we have owned the largest both public and private collections of paintings by this Chinese master outside the borders of his homeland.
