My Dear Christ Child 2020

22. 11. 2020 – 16. 1. 2021

My Dear Christ Child,

All of us are dealing with an exceptional challenge this year. We are patiently learning to respect our own health, and in many cases, we are changing what we value most in life. An increased outlay of personal energy, for many now living in solitude, leads one to think about the position of art and its purpose in these unusual times. Some say that art is non-essential, while others discover an increasingly deeper source of strength in it, together with glimmers of joy as well as soothing comfort. You know that I greatly respect Bohumil Kubišta, who left us with the thought “Art stands above life!” And I also think about the words of the astronomer Tycho Brahe, who said: “Neither power nor weapons but only the strength of Art will endure.” This is my faith. This gives art an even stronger purpose, particularly to those who live for art. It is for them that I have organised an intimate exhibition of the work of the greatest Slovak painter of all time – Ľudovít Fulla – who, from my point of view, linked the world of Christian values with Orthodox and Byzantine art to create a modern expressive statement. What will surely surprise You, is the art of Mária Bartuszová, a sculptor whom only a select few in the Czech Republic know. The artwork of Jan Zrzavý, Bohuslav Reynek, Josef Váchal, and all the other radical artists from various generations will also embrace You in their mutual harmony. When the Christmas holidays arrive, I believe that You will allow us to unwrap them with shining eyes beneath the Christmas tree so that we can permanently believe that we are here, living in beauty.

Thank you!
